NOW YOU KNOW THE REAL ME

Now You Know the Real Me comprises seven quilt-based works made by Malcolm Harrison (1941–2007) between 1988 and 1990. Harrison was a gay man, and although queer qualities can be felt in his work, they are seldom explicit. The 'real Malcolm' lies between the threads.
Like all our shows, Now You Know the Real Me can be viewed from Lower Albert Street at all times. It is open by appointment only. To request a viewing, please email contact@seasonaotearoa.com or phone Francis on +64 21 232 6032. A catalogue with a short essay can be downloaded below.

'The core of Now You Know the Real Me is a series of panels from Harrison's monumental and sombre Mortal Angels. The work permits multiple readings but surely speaks to the devastation of the 'first wave' of HIV/AIDS. It was originally composed of seventeen pieces, five focussing on a key colour and twelve essentially black. Six panels were separated from their fellows some years ago.'
